Key Insights & Lessons from August
The portfolio recovered after July’s −13.8%, with the core at £17,518 (+£2,796). That is a recovery month, not a breakout to new highs.
Tesla permit and recall: Nevada approved a Tesla Robotaxi ceiling of 5,000 vehicles in Clark County. That is a cap, not a fleet. China recalled nearly 3 million Teslas over emergency door-release labels. Cybercab on 3 September is a watch, not an August delivery. Tesla is still the largest growth position.
SpaceX Louisiana and Roman: Starbase Louisiana at Pecan Island is a stated $100 billion campus, first launch as soon as 2029. Starlink 10-49 was the last planned Falcon 9 Starlink from Florida. On 30 August Falcon Heavy launched NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. Starship Flight 14 did not fly.
NVIDIA quarter: Revenue $96.2 billion, Data Center $89.0 billion and a Q3 outlook of $108.0 billion ±2% with no China data-center compute assumed. The £10/week NVIDIA buys are still a demand story, not a miss.
Bitcoin and Ethereum flows: US spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) ran a mid-August inflow streak, then a red day on 28 August. Ether stayed positive that Friday. Farside’s 31 August prints were green again. No August month-total. The £10/week bitcoin and ether buys ran through that.
Premium Bonds: NS&I lifts the prize fund rate from 3.80% to 4.35% from the September 2026 draw. The August draw stayed at 3.80%. Bonds sit at £1,975.
Space Pie and Quantum Pie still look loud on month-over-month percentages because the bases are small. Outplayed, Plutus and the dividend ETFs did the quiet job.
